Field of Flowers

Beauty, recreation, rest…

refreshment for our souls −

we need to drink in what is good

to nourish dreams that grow.

The first place the Dragonfly King takes Dragonfly Denny is over a fragrant field of flowers. This is not merely an incidental side-note to their journey (nor to ours). Beauty can come through many different forms and avenues besides nature: there is also music, dance, or the beautiful richness of warm and close emotional connections available in human relationships. Since beauty has the capacity to ignite the imagination and create fertile soil for dreams to germinate and blossom, can you think of and share what you value as worthwhile and beautifully enriching experiences?

Recreation comes from the words “to re-create.” The expression of creativity comes in countless ways from the exercise of hospitality, to that of administration (which can make an organization or project run more smoothly). How have you benefitted from the beauty that others have created?  Consider the ways in which you beautify the world of others − even if only through a smile or simple word of encouragement.

The enjoyment of beauty and recreational activities can have another benefit. When Albert Einstein ran into a mathematical problem that he couldn’t solve, he would take a break and play his violin. He was an accomplished musician. Having turned his attention away from a “logical” brain function, the “answer” would then become apparent to him.
