The union of the Three in One
a three-fold cord forever bound
Father, Spirit, Son.
I intertwine my heart with Yours
and my focus feels like we’re just four.
But as I ponder the High Priestly Prayer
there is so much I’d not seen.
It’s time to add the more.
~
Separation from our Maker
ended at the cross.
Christ paid the price
one holy, perfect, sacrifice
inviting all to enter in . . .
to union with Him, me and you
as we join hand in hand.
~
We lay down pride, forgive offense
self-protection’s walls that bent
each and every one apart.
Instead unite. We’re one in Christ . . .
a single beating heart.
~
Two thousand years
let’s answer prayer
that we’d all be made one.
“It is finished” paved the way.
The foundation has been laid.
Together, let us build . . .
one mind, one heart, one steadfast will.
What sacrifice must I make
to see Christ’s prayer fulfilled?
~
The Psalmist said it’s beauty
when all brothers and all sisters
dwell in one accord.
Together that means me and you
in the sweetness of rich unity
like sacred scented oil
poured over and then flowing
from the Levite Aaron’s head
dripping down upon his beard
running to the very edge
of his priestly purple robe.
~
What the Psalmist didn’t know
is that Aaron’s a type of Christ.
It’s the oil of the Spirit
pouring o’er Jesus’ head
that trickles down
(can you feel it streaming
rivers over you?)
as it reaches to the very hem
of His seamless garment now?
~
It’s a song that the Creator
longs to finally hear
when dissonance between His kids
forever is dispelled
and the groaning of Creation
that awaits final redemption
is soothed and put at perfect peace
by a melody in harmony
with a veil that has been rent.
~
Together we have access to
the Holiest of Holies
all inside the heart of God
it has always been the plan
long before time began . . .
’twas the Father’s original intent.
